Launch Your Career in Animal Welfare

The Animal Care Shelter for Kent County offers hands-on internship opportunities for high school and college students interested in animal welfare and veterinary careers.

Interns gain valuable experience in shelter operations—helping with daily enrichment, supporting medical staff, and building real-world skills under professional mentorship. Interns make a lasting impact—not only on their own career path but also on the daily wellbeing of the animals in our care.

Through partnerships with Chesapeake College’s Upper Shore Workforce Scholarship Program and the Maryland Department of Rehabilitation Services, ACSKC offers a six-week paid internship for high school and college-age youth exploring careers in animal care. 

Since 2024, ACSKC has also provided an internship opportunity in animal medicine for a Kent County High School student, in collaboration with the Chestertown Lions Club, the Maryland Business Roundtable for Education, and Kent County Public Schools.
